New job? Moving soon? School starting? We dig for the earliest road test openings and book one that works for you. Open to more than one site? You'll likely test even sooner.
Fill this out and we'll reach you by call or text to set your date.
Rush is for when the calendar matters: a job that needs a license, a move, a semester starting soon. For $75 per booking, we go after the soonest openings, often checking several nearby sites, and grab one that fits your schedule. The usual result is a test roughly 1-3 weeks away.
Flexibility is the secret ingredient. If you can get to any of a few sites, there are more openings to pick from, and that usually means an earlier date. If you're set on one specific site, Rush still helps, there's just less to work with.
To be clear about what Rush is not: it isn't a paid fast lane at the DMV. The DMV keeps no waiting lists, and openings appear in the same scheduling system everyone uses. We put in the time to search it so you don't have to.
A faster date also means less time to prepare, so be honest with yourself. If you've done plenty of practice and just need a slot, Rush makes sense. If parallel parking still makes you sweat, a later Standard date might serve you better.
Send the form with your name and phone, choose Rush, and pick a site or let us search for the soonest date.
We get in touch by call or text to go over your details and how flexible you can be on the site.
We look for the soonest openings, often across several nearby sites.
Once your test is booked, the details land in your texts or your inbox.
Add our car if you need one, and use every day before the test to practice.
Your MV-278 is good for one year from the day it was issued, and it can't be renewed. Make sure you have the original, not a copy. Lost it? Only the school that ran your course can replace it, so ask early.
Decide now which car you're using. Check its registration, insurance and inspection dates and its plates, and confirm your licensed companion is free that day. If either one feels shaky, book our car now rather than scrambling later.
Practice until you can park within a foot of the curb without overthinking it. Use the manual's setup: pull up beside the car ahead, roughly two feet away, then back in slowly and steadily.
Find quiet, narrow two-way streets and practice turning around in three moves. Then review where U-turns are illegal in the city, so you don't make one out of habit.
DMV recommends at least 50 hours of practice before the test, with 15 after sunset and 10 in moderate to heavy traffic. Behind on hours? Use these two weeks to close the gap, always with a licensed supervising driver aged 21 or older.
DMV's road test prep page links a video called Preparing for a Class D (Passenger Vehicle) Road Test. It's free, it comes straight from the state, and it's worth watching at least once.
Lay out your photo permit, your original MV-278, your MV-262 if you're under 18, and your glasses if your permit requires them. Check the weather and look up your appointment in case it was moved.
Eat something, leave early, and plan to arrive 30 minutes ahead, or 60 with our car. Only your accompanying driver comes along, so leave everyone else at home.
⏰ Get there 30 minutes early. Using our car? Make it 60 minutes, so you have time to warm up.
No. It's what most people get. Openings depend on the sites and the time of year, and how flexible you are about the site makes a big difference.
You can, but sticking to one site leaves fewer openings to choose from. Most of the speed comes from being open to a few nearby options.
Yes, once you're eligible again. The DMV requires at least 14 days between attempts and an unused road test on your record. After two fails, that means paying $10 for two more tests first.
No. We're an independent private service, not the DMV, and Rush doesn't move you up any DMV line. Rush means we do the searching for early openings for you.
Yes. Rush and our $115 car can be booked together, which is handy when you're testing on short notice.
Yes, unless you completed a high school or college driver ed program (MV-285). Without a finished pre-licensing course on your record, the DMV system won't let anyone book your test, us included. Our live online class costs $40 with the MV-278 certificate included, and runs in English and Spanish groups.
It's New York's pre-licensing class: about 5 hours on traffic rules, defensive driving, risky behavior, and alcohol and drugs, with no time behind the wheel. Most people getting a first New York license need it (driver ed graduates with an MV-285 are the exception), including new residents with a license from another country and drivers whose NY license expired 2 or more years ago. Licenses from another U.S. state or Canada can often be exchanged instead.
No, and the DMV says so itself. The class covers the knowledge side of driving. The skills the examiner scores, like parallel parking, turns and observation, come from practice hours with a licensed driver or from driving lessons.
One year from the date it's issued. It can't be renewed, so if it runs out, you take the course again. Bring the original to your road test; copies aren't accepted.
With our Standard booking, most people get a date roughly 5-9 weeks away, depending on the site. Rush sends us looking for the soonest openings, often at several nearby sites, and the typical result is a test roughly 1-3 weeks away. Being flexible about the site usually gets you an earlier date. Tests are almost always on weekdays.
Your physical photo learner permit, your original MV-278 (or MV-285), a completed MV-262 if you're under 18, and glasses or contacts if your permit requires them. Add a licensed companion with a physical license and a test-ready car, or use ours.
Only your accompanying licensed driver. They must be over 18 if they drive you there, or at least 21 if you drive there on your permit, and they need a physical license that's valid for the car. No other passengers are allowed at the site.
Not if you book ours. The DMV doesn't supply cars, but ours costs $115 per test day. It carries full insurance, it's prepared for the DMV test, it shows up at your site, and a brief warm-up drive comes first. It's built for people with no car and nobody licensed to bring them.
Yes, as long as it meets the rules: valid registration, insurance and inspection, permanent plates, everything working, and a clean interior. For a rental, bring the rental agreement plus written permission to use the car for a road test.
You still take the written test, the 5-hour course and the road test. If your license isn't in English, bring an International Driving Permit or a certified translation to the road test. Once you pass, you hand your foreign license to the examiner.
Your permit stays valid until its expiration date. Wait at least 14 days, then book again. The fee you paid for your permit covers two road tests; after two fails, you pay $10 for two more through the DMV's online services before you can book.
After the drive, you get a card explaining how to check your result online. Results post after 6 p.m. on test day. If you passed, you get an interim license online, and the photo license arrives by mail in about 2 weeks.
Yes. Give us 48 hours' notice or more, and we'll help you pick a new date. Rescheduling may come with a fee.
No. We're an independent private service. The DMV runs every road test at its own sites, and whatever the DMV charges goes to the state, separate from our prices.
